The second series of the Amazon Prime show “Young Sherlock” is currently being filmed in Cheltenham, with several central locations transformed into a Victorian-era film set. Following the first series which was shot in Bristol, the production has moved to the South West town, using Montpellier Walk and the Promenade as key shooting sites.
Notable cast members include Hero Fiennes Tiffin in the lead role, alongside Joseph Fiennes, who is also his uncle, and Colin Firth. While it is not confirmed if these stars are present on location, the area has been meticulously adapted to depict the 1800s, complete with period-appropriate horses and vehicles.
Local businesses have been assured that they remain open during the filming period, which runs from August 2 to 7. An advanced notice sign posted on Montpellier Walk encouraged shoppers and visitors to continue their usual activities despite the ongoing production.
Motive Pictures (YS2) Ltd, the production company behind the series, secured permission to use 77 Promenade as a filming location. The building has been temporarily modified to represent the Eaton Square residence of a principal character from the Victorian drama. According to a planning statement, these alterations to both the exterior and interior entrance hall are designed to be fully reversible and will be removed promptly after filming, with the property restored to its original condition.
“Young Sherlock” was created by Matthew Parkhill and developed by renowned filmmakers Guy Ritchie and Peter Harness, promising an engaging continuation of the detective’s early adventures set against a beautifully recreated historical backdrop.
