Dr. Alice Bolton, a young A&E doctor, found herself on the other side of the hospital bed when she was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) during her shift in May 2024. The diagnosis came just one hour after she had a blood test for suspected glandular fever at the same hospital.
Despite training for a half marathon and showing no signs of illness, Alice’s world turned upside down when she began experiencing symptoms such as swollen lymph nodes and unexplained bruising. Her initial suspicions of glandular fever were shattered when she was swiftly diagnosed with AML.
Alice’s journey included undergoing intensive chemotherapy and achieving remission, only to face a relapse in March 2025. Her hope for a cure lies in a stem cell transplant, with both of her sisters being perfect matches for the procedure.
Despite the uncertainty and challenges, love triumphed as Alice and her partner Hayden decided to move forward with their wedding plans, organizing a beautiful ceremony in a short span of time. Supported by her family and propelled by her sisters' unwavering support, Alice continues to demonstrate resilience and optimism.
Facing the realities of her diagnosis, Alice is preparing to support others by raising awareness and funds for Leukaemia UK, along with her sisters who are participating in the TCS London Marathon. Despite the obstacles, she remains hopeful and serves as an inspiration to others, embodying the spirit of resilience and positivity.
