Wrexham Duo Mo Faal and Harry Ashfield Poised for Cheltenham Town Loan Moves

Cheltenham Town are on the verge of securing midfielder Harry Ashfield on loan from Championship side Wrexham. The 19-year-old has featured once in the Championship for Wrexham, notably contributing to a 2-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers on January 1. Earlier this season, he also made an impact by scoring in an EFL Cup win against Preston.

In addition to Ashfield, Cheltenham could also be welcoming forward Mo Faal on loan before the transfer deadline at 7pm on Monday. The 6ft 5in Gambian striker spent the first half of the season on loan at League One club Port Vale.

Faal’s career has seen him develop through West Brom’s academy, followed by loan spells at Hereford, Telford United, AFC Fylde, Doncaster Rovers, and Walsall. In 2024, he made a permanent move to Wrexham. During his time at Walsall, Faal impressively scored six goals in just nine League Two starts and 11 substitute appearances. He went on to net 10 goals for Doncaster across 26 starts and seven substitute outings in all competitions.

Cheltenham’s manager Steve Cotterill has already brought in Wrexham forward Jake Bickerstaff on loan this season, a move that was made permanent earlier this month. Other recent additions to the Robins include George Nurse, Cole Deeming, and Josh Davison.

Midfielder Cole Deeming joined on loan from West Brom, while Josh Davison arrived on a temporary deal from Tranmere Rovers, both set to stay until the end of the season. Left-back George Nurse signed a contract until the summer after leaving Shrewsbury Town earlier this month, further bolstering Cheltenham’s squad at Whaddon Road.
