Woman Who Drugged and Robbed Men Pleads Guilty to Manslaughter

Adina Mihai, 31, and Madalin Dumitru, 30, have pleaded guilty to manslaughter after drugging men who had arranged for sexual services at their homes, resulting in the deaths of two men.

Between August 2024 and July 2025, the pair met with men seeking sex work, taking financial deposits beforehand. Mihai, posing as a sex worker, would then secretly drug the victims with gamma-butyrolactone (GBL), a chemical that converts into GHB in the body, rendering them unconscious. While incapacitated, Mihai and Dumitru stole from the victims.

The victims included Malcolm King, 80, who died in Bagendon, Gloucestershire, on August 20, 2024, and Gary Mouat, 37, who died in Banbury, Oxfordshire, on July 12, 2025. Both deaths were initially not regarded as suspicious until toxicology exams revealed the presence of GBL. Two additional victims, whose identities are protected, were also drugged but survived.

Following forensic evidence and a national police bulletin triggered by the discovery of poisoning in Mr. Mouat’s case, investigators linked Mr. King’s death to the same modus operandi. Mihai and Dumitru, formerly of Ilford, Essex, were arrested in late July 2025 and pleaded guilty via video-link at Oxford Crown Court, averting the need for a trial.

Mrs Justice Brunner KC announced that substantial prison sentences would be imposed on the pair, scheduled for sentencing in late July or early August 2025. Both defendants remain in custody pending sentencing.

Detective Inspector Michael Roddy of Thames Valley Police described the investigation as “extremely complex and resource-intensive,” highlighting the fatal consequences of the defendants' actions. Gloucestershire Constabulary’s Detective Inspector Adam Stacey echoed these sentiments, commending the collaborative police work that led to the convictions.

Police continue to investigate and keep an open mind about any additional potential victims linked to these crimes.
