Woman Receives Annual Christmas Cards from Gloucester Friend but Can’t Respond

Sandra Chubb, a 78-year-old woman who once lived in Gloucester, has kept a touching tradition alive — she receives a Christmas card every year from her long-time friend, Sylvia Provins. The pair’s friendship dates back to their years on Forest View Road, Gloucester, but time and distance have made staying in touch a challenge.

Sandra moved to Cornwall in 1996 and later relocated to France about ten years ago. Despite the moves, she and Sylvia maintained their connection, exchanging Christmas greetings during every visit Sandra made back to Tuffley. However, in recent years, the chain of communication has faltered.

“I last saw Sylvia around 15 years ago,” Sandra shared. “We used to send each other Christmas cards every year, but five years ago she moved without leaving me her new address. I still get her card each year, but I can’t write back.”

Though Sylvia’s cards continue to arrive, Sandra feels the pain of unanswered greetings and fears her friend may believe she has stopped caring. “I know she’s still somewhere in Gloucestershire, but not where. It would mean so much if someone knew where she was so I could reach out to her.”

Sandra’s heartfelt hope is to reconnect with her dear neighbor, whom she remembers as “such a nice person” and “a lovely neighbour.” The simple gesture of a returned card or a conversation would revive a cherished friendship that distance has threatened to silence.
