Woman Posing as Sex Worker Pleads Guilty to Manslaughter of Two Men She Drugged

Adina Mihai, 31, and Madalin Dumitru, 30, have pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of two men whom they drugged after posing as sex workers. Between August 2024 and July 2025, the pair arranged meetings with men seeking sexual services, drugging them unconscious using gamma-butyrolactone (GBL) to facilitate theft.

The two took deposits from victims before Mihai would visit their homes, where she spiked their drinks with GBL—a substance that metabolizes into the powerful sedative GHB. Thames Valley Police revealed that these actions were part of a deliberate plan to incapacitate victims and steal their property.

The defendants admitted their crimes at Oxford Crown Court via video link, acknowledging responsibility for the deaths of Malcolm King, 80, in Gloucestershire on August 20, 2024, and Gary Mouat, 37, in Oxfordshire on July 12, 2025. Alongside these charges, Mihai and Dumitru also admitted to unlawfully administering poison to two other men whose identities remain protected under reporting restrictions.

Initial investigations had not linked Mr. King’s death to foul play due to his underlying health issues, but forensic evidence uncovered during inquiries connected Mihai and Dumitru to his poisoning. Following Mr. Mouat’s death, Thames Valley Police issued a national alert to other forces to identify any related incidents.

Arrested on July 31, 2025, Mihai and Dumitru’s guilty pleas ended the need for a trial scheduled at Oxford Crown Court. Judge Mrs. Justice Brunner KC indicated that both would face substantial prison sentences, to be formally handed down in late July or early August.

Detective Inspector Michael Roddy of Thames Valley Police described the investigation as “extremely complex and resource-intensive,” emphasizing the tragic consequences of the defendants’ actions. He expressed gratitude for the support from the victims’ families and confirmed ongoing inquiries continue to explore whether other victims exist.

Detective Inspector Adam Stacey of Gloucestershire Constabulary noted the “callous and calculated” nature of the crimes, adding that the defendants had little option but to plead guilty given overwhelming evidence.

The case highlights the dangers posed by those exploiting vulnerable individuals under the guise of offering sexual services and serves as a grim reminder of the lethal risks of drug-facilitated crimes.
