Woman Faces Eviction After Sister’s Sudden Death

Gill Ward, a 61-year-old woman from Broadwell near Coleford, is in danger of facing eviction from the housing association bungalow she shared with her late sister, Jane Hall. Despite moving in with her sister last August, she has been served an eviction notice due to not meeting the one-year residency requirement.

With no alternative place to go and still reeling from the unexpected loss of her sister, Ms. Ward finds herself confronting the grim prospect of homelessness. She expressed, “It’s still quite raw for us. Me and my sister were close. Unfortunately, she died on March 7. We still don’t know what she died of. All of her stuff is here. I thought I could stay in the bungalow because she informed Two Rivers I was staying here. They said because I haven’t been here a year I cannot stay. They are giving notice today actually. They want me out by May 25.”

Two Rivers Housing Association has expressed regret for any added distress and clarified that while they are unable to simply transfer the tenancy into Ms. Ward’s name, they will assist her in finding a new place to live and continue to provide support during this challenging period.

In response, a spokesperson for Two Rivers Housing Association stated, “We understand that this is a really difficult time for her and her family…We will continue to work with her and do everything we can to make sure she has a secure home as soon as possible.”
