No matter how minor they seem, never ignore changes in your body. Persistent pain or unexpected fatigue may often be harmless, but sometimes these symptoms can signal something more serious.
Paige Seifert, a young woman from the US, was diagnosed with stage three bowel cancer at only 24 years old. Initially dismissing her symptoms as ordinary, she later recognized their severity and has since shared her experience on TikTok to raise awareness and encourage others to seek medical advice.
Paige highlights three vital symptoms that prompted her to get checked despite initial doubts:

Fatigue
While fatigue can result from everyday causes like poor sleep or physical exertion, it can also indicate deeper health issues, such as vitamin deficiencies, hormone imbalances, or even cancer. Paige recalls, “I know this can be chalked up to a bunch of different things… but this, combined with all the rest, was a big indicator for me.”
-
Digestive Issues
Digestive discomfort might seem benign, but sporadic stomach pain, cramping, or nausea can be warning signs. Paige shares, “For me, it was super sporadic. It didn’t happen all the time, but when it did, it just felt like something was off.”

Blood in Stool
Perhaps the most critical symptom, blood in stool, shouldn’t be ignored. Although it can be caused by haemorrhoids or menstruation, persistent bleeding warrants immediate medical attention. Paige explains, “Blood in your stool is a huge one… But this, along with the other things I was experiencing, was a definite indicator that something was wrong.”
Paige’s persistence eventually led to a diagnosis, and she now undergoes regular scans to monitor her condition. Recently, her latest tests showed no signs of colon cancer, though other health issues remain under observation. She remains hopeful but acknowledges ongoing concerns.
Bowel cancer is one of the UK’s most common cancers. Early detection plays a crucial role in effective treatment, so it’s vital to recognize warning signs and seek help promptly.
If you experience symptoms like blood in your stool, unexplained fatigue, or unusual digestive problems for three weeks or longer, consult your GP. In cases of heavy bleeding or black stools, seek emergency assistance immediately.
