Reports of wolf sightings in the UK are not uncommon, particularly in the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire. Wildlife enthusiast Frank Tunbridge, aged 78, from Podsmead, has been receiving accounts of non-native animal sightings for decades, including reports of wolves. The most recent sighting involved a couple who encountered a wolf near Sherwood Forest, describing it as “a lot larger than a Husky and a lot more menacing”.
Tunbridge firmly believes that there are wolves roaming across the British countryside, and he receives approximately two to three wolf sighting reports annually, particularly from large forested areas like Sherwood Forest or The Forest of Dean. He emphasizes that wolves are shy and wary creatures, usually avoiding confrontations with people whenever possible.
The couple who witnessed the wolf revisited the area and found evidence of deer tracks followed by large paw prints, similar to a dog but extremely large. This suggests that the UK has an abundance of prey species to support the existence of large carnivores in the wild.
