Where to Park for Gloucestershire Cheese Rolling 2025 and Parking Costs

The iconic Gloucestershire Cheese Rolling event is fast approaching, set to take place on Bank Holiday Monday, May 26, 2025. Spectators and participants alike are gearing up for this adrenaline-fueled tradition where racers chase a nine-pound wheel of cheese down the steep Coopers Hill.

Organisers, known as ‘Team Cheese,’ are urging everyone attending to plan their visit carefully, especially regarding parking and attire. The event is free to attend—no tickets or registration are required. However, the number of racers is capped at 25 per downhill race on a first-come, first-served basis. All attendees participate and watch at their own risk.

To ensure a smooth experience, Team Cheese has specified that parking is only permitted in designated areas. Parking costs £10 per vehicle, with all proceeds benefiting local charities and community collections. Visitors are strongly advised against parking in unauthorized spots.

Parking zones are located around the Cross Hands Shell garage area. From there, it’s a 30 to 40-minute walk to Coopers Hill. You can reach the hill via a footpath through a field to the right of the garage or walk along the adjacent road.

Public transport options include the No. 10 bus from Gloucester and Cheltenham, stopping at Cross Hands. Note that this is the closest stop, so prepare for the walk to the hill.

Attendees are reminded they will be passing through farmland, so please respect the livestock and property. Suitable footwear and weather-appropriate clothing are essential, as the terrain is firm this year, with no rain expected. Children participating in the event should dress warmly and consider wearing gloves to assist with climbing the hill.

While entering the hill is optional, spectators will find excellent viewing spots in the surrounding fields. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on leads, and owners should clean up after them. Black litter bags will be available on-site.

Unfortunately, disabled parking is not available due to road closures enforced by authorities, a situation beyond the organisers’ control.

On the day, there will be food vendors including a burger van, ice cream, and a cake seller. Cheese Rolling T-shirts will also be sold as souvenirs.

Most importantly, all participants and spectators should be aware that attending the event is entirely at their own risk.
