James Martin has been the charismatic host of the popular ITV cookery show Saturday Morning since 2017. Filmed at his Hampshire residence, the 53-year-old chef invites viewers to enjoy mouth-watering recipes, cook alongside culinary experts, and welcome celebrity guests all from the comfort of his own home.
This weekend’s episode showcases chefs Monica Galetti and Atul Kochhar preparing a range of delicious seasonal dishes for former England rugby star Matt Dawson, while Nicola Lando shares festive gift ideas perfect for food lovers.
In a recent appearance on Loose Women, James revealed a surprising fact: the show is actually filmed in his personal home. “It’s just a great fun show,” he said. “It’s the only cookery show where you’ve got dogs running around everywhere!” He went on to explain the unique filming style: “We shoot it as live, not live as you guys are, but we don’t rehearse. Many don’t know that I’ve never cooked any of the dishes in 20 years until we press record.”

James praised his “amazing” production team and shared that the show is filmed in a converted garage kitchen rather than a traditional studio. “That’s what it is,” he confirmed.
Loose Women panellist Sue Cleaver echoed the surprise many fans feel: “I think a lot of people who watch it think, ‘Oh, it’s not really at his house, is it?’ But it really is! It’s such a lovely environment and the crew have worked together for years.”
The show’s setting includes a specially designed kitchen within a converted garage and an outdoor cooking area, creating a relaxed and inviting atmosphere.
James has also spoken about why filming from home suits him so well. He explained: “People ask if I miss live TV. I did live TV for 25 years. I’m probably okay at live shows, but filming from home means I can do it on my schedule—when guests are free, and when it suits. The guests love it because it’s informal and relaxed. I remember having Boyzone over until 2 am once—it’s a chilled-out vibe.”
James Martin’s Saturday Morning at Christmas will air this Saturday at 9:30am on ITV and ITVX.
