“We’re not going away” - Forest Green Boss Robbie Savage after win at Aldershot Town

Forest Green Rovers manager Robbie Savage expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance after a thrilling 3-2 win against Aldershot Town on Saturday afternoon. Despite a late fightback from Aldershot, Forest Green held on to claim their second consecutive league victory, a streak they had not achieved since late September.

Savage praised his squad for controlling the game early on and creating more scoring opportunities. “It’s three valuable points on the road in the National League,” he said. “We deserved the goals we scored and should have added more. We’re currently third in the table among some very strong clubs. Some might underestimate us, but we’re here to stay.”

The match saw Kyle McAllister shine with two goals, supported by Jayden Clarke’s impressive first-half strike. McAllister opened the scoring midway through the first half after benefiting from a misplaced pass, calmly slotting the ball into the corner. Savage highlighted McAllister’s talent, noting, “He was magnificent today and at Luton; if he continues to improve his assists and goal tally, he can play at an even higher level.”

Clarke’s goal came from a fantastic team move initiated by new signing Harry Isted. The ball circulated through several players before Clarke finished with precision into the bottom corner. Savage emphasized the importance of all goals, regardless of how they are scored: “Every goal that goes in is satisfying.”

McAllister secured his brace shortly after the hour mark, firing in a low, powerful shot following a defensive error by Aldershot. However, Aldershot fought back with two quick goals in the 68th and 71st minutes, unsettling debutant keeper Isted’s hopes of a clean sheet.

Savage commended Isted’s performance despite the pressure and highlighted defender Ryan Inniss’s strong presence, who recently earned an international call-up for Trinidad and Tobago.

Due to a one-match ban from a previous yellow card, Savage watched from the stands alongside club figures Dale Vince and Mark Bowen. He praised his coaching staff for managing the team effectively in his absence and apologized for being unable to celebrate with the fans post-match.

Forest Green’s squad remains competitive, with Savage confirming that players like Christian Doidge, absent from this matchday squad, must continue to prove themselves to regain their place. “There’s always an opportunity to get back into the squad,” he added.

Looking ahead, Forest Green will host Tamworth at The New Lawn in a rescheduled fixture. Savage prepared his players for a physical challenge but expressed confidence in securing another win.

The match details concluded with Forest Green’s team lineup and an attendance of 2,219 spectators, including 229 visiting fans.
