Jeremy Clarkson’s Amazon Prime series, now in its fourth season, follows his quest to run a pub in Oxfordshire. Fans of “Clarkson’s Farm” will recognize The Farmer’s Dog, his pub located in Burford, which opened last summer.
Despite initial hurdles, The Farmer’s Dog is thriving and attracting visitors from across the country. Curious about the hype, a reporter from The Express visited the pub after exploring the Diddly Squat farm. The experience revealed something unexpected.
When arriving at the farm shop, a long queue stretched under the sunny skies, with hundreds eager to visit. Knowing this was the usual weekend scene, there were concerns that the nearby pub might be just as crowded, potentially involving long waits under the sun.

However, for those planning a visit, the advice is clear: skip the Diddly Squat farm and head straight to The Farmer’s Dog pub. While the farm has its cult following thanks to the show, the pub offers a more relaxed atmosphere without the queues or portable toilets.
The pub includes the charming main building featured on the series and the Farmer’s Puppy marquee—a spacious area serving drinks and hot food. A well-stocked shop sells all of Clarkson’s produce, including a dedicated section for his popular Hawkstone beer and cider.
The range of products on sale surpassed expectations; anything available at Diddly Squat can also be found at the pub’s shop. A second bar means shorter wait times—a welcome change from the early opening days when queues were frustratingly long.
With a large car park and abundant garden seating overlooking the stunning Cotswolds, I was quickly able to order and enjoy a Hawkstone cider and a bacon roll outdoors. Both were delicious and perfect for the relaxing setting.
As lunchtime bookings increased and the pub busied up, the separate drinks area allowed guests to unwind comfortably in the sun. The combination of a beautiful location, ample seating, and the nearby picturesque village of Burford makes The Farmer’s Dog a worthy destination even for just a drink.
So, if you want to enjoy Jeremy Clarkson’s farm-to-pub experience without the crowds, take it from someone who spent a sunny afternoon at The Farmer’s Dog: save time, skip the farm shop, and head straight to the pub garden.
