This Saturday, Gloucester invites residents and visitors alike to travel back to the 1940s with a special VE Day Tea Dance event in Kings Square. Marking the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day, the free celebration promises a lively afternoon filled with authentic period music, dancing, and traditional British tea and cakes.
From 1pm to 4pm on May 10, Kings Square will be transformed into a vibrant homage to the spirit of VE Day. Attendees can savor classic teas and freshly baked cakes available for purchase while enjoying live performances by the swing band Moonlighting, who will fill the air with energetic 1940s tunes. The event will also feature a curated playlist of VE Day-themed songs, creating a captivating atmosphere perfect for dancing and reminiscing.
The celebration will be graced by distinguished guests, including Gloucester’s MP, Mayor, and Sheriff, all of whom are eager to pay tribute to this historic milestone. The square will be adorned with patriotic flags and bunting, enhancing the festive ambiance and evoking a strong sense of community pride.
