The town of Newent, located in the Forest of Dean, has recently experienced a surge in vandalism and graffiti that has resulted in thousands of pounds worth of damage to public buildings, walls, and street furniture.
Local police have reported that incidents have occurred not only throughout the town but also in recreational areas around the lake. Following an initial rise in graffiti seen in December, further acts of vandalism have severely affected multiple sites, causing what authorities describe as “significant damage.”
Efforts to clean and restore the affected areas are expected to cost the local authority several hundred to potentially thousands of pounds, imposing an unanticipated financial strain on community resources.

Police are actively investigating and pursuing leads to identify two individuals suspected of being responsible for the damage. They urge anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigation.
A spokesperson for the neighbourhood team commented: “The vandalism is not just an attack on property but also on the community’s sense of safety and pride. We encourage residents to report any suspicious activity to help us hold those responsible accountable.”
