One of the most impressive aircraft in the United States military’s fleet, the USAF Rockwell B-1B Lancer, arrived with a thunderous roar at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire on Tuesday, July 15. Its touchdown marked the beginning of preparations for the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) 2025, scheduled from Friday, July 18 through Sunday, July 20.
RIAT has confirmed that the B-1B Lancer will be featured on static display, offering aviation enthusiasts a rare opportunity to witness this legendary bomber both in flight and on the ground. The aircraft flew in from Ellsworth Air Force Base in the United States, captivating onlookers with its powerful presence over the Cotswolds skies.
Known as the backbone of America’s long-range bomber force, the B-1B can carry the largest conventional payload of guided and unguided weapons in the Air Force. The multi-mission bomber’s advanced capabilities include rapid delivery of massive precision and non-precision strikes anywhere in the world. Its synthetic aperture radar enhances tracking, targeting, and engagement of moving vehicles, and supports terrain-following flight modes.

Famous not only for its firepower but also for its unforgettable roar, the B-1B’s engines have previously been likened to an earthquake, shaking nearby houses during past visits to RAF Fairford. The bomber frequently participates in training missions across Europe as part of Bomber Task Force deployments.
Alongside the B-1B, RIAT 2025 will showcase a variety of USAF and United States Army aircraft, promising a spectacular display for attendees. Following recent rumours, event organisers have confirmed that RIAT will proceed as planned with robust security measures in place to ensure a safe and memorable experience.
