US President Donald Trump has expressed surprise at the decision to grant bail to five men arrested in connection with a suspected terror plot near RAF Fairford.
The suspects were detained in Whelford during the early hours of Sunday, 27 September, on suspicion of offences under the Explosives Act. They were also arrested on suspicion of preparation of a terrorist act, contrary to section 5 of the Terrorism Act. Following their arrest, all five individuals have since been released on bail.
President Trump reportedly stated that he would not have allowed bail in such circumstances, underscoring his astonishment at the decision.

RAF Fairford, primarily operating as a base for the United States Air Force (USAF), has served as the European hub for USAF bomber operations targeting regions including Iran and the Persian Gulf.
Police investigations continued at the RAF base into Monday, 28 September, led by Counter Terrorism Policing. A cordon remained in place around three vehicles located at the site as part of the ongoing inquiry.
As a safety precaution, approximately 85 households were advised to evacuate, with a nearby leisure centre providing shelter for those unable to stay with relatives or friends. Gloucestershire Police have since informed residents that they are now able to return to their homes, although the cordon remains active.
Authorities have emphasised that despite the release of the suspects on bail, the investigation remains active and comprehensive.
