In the early hours of Sunday morning, a significant fire broke out at RAF Fairford, a Gloucestershire airbase used by the US Air Force. Multiple fire crews quickly responded to control flames engulfing a storage building on the site.
The fire, which began around 1 a.m., has been classified by Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue as accidental. Thankfully, no injuries were reported during the incident.
RAF Fairford has been a key strategic base for the US Air Force since March, following permission granted by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer to use the facility for defensive strikes. The base’s involvement in the ongoing Iran conflict has sparked controversy, with about 200 protesters peacefully demonstrating there on Saturday, opposing the base’s role in military actions.

Demonstrators marched along the runway, carrying signs demanding an end to American military presence at British bases and protesting against war policies. RAF Fairford remains one of only two European bases capable of accommodating all three types of America’s long-range bombers.
The US Air Force issued a statement confirming the fire posed no danger to personnel or the surrounding community. They expressed gratitude for local support and emphasized their commitment to the safety of personnel, families, and neighbors. The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, and updates will be provided as more information emerges.
Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue officials reiterated that the fire involved a single-story industrial storage building. Firefighters successfully contained the blaze without casualties. While crews continue to monitor the site to ensure full resolution, early assessments support the conclusion that the fire was accidental.
