The NHS is urgently calling individuals aged between 50 and 71 to undergo a critical yet straightforward health check that could potentially save lives. The health service emphasizes the importance of responding to screening invitations.
Once invited, individuals are encouraged to save the date for breast screening, which could detect cancer early or provide peace of mind. The screenings occur every three years and typically last just 30 minutes.
During the appointment, a female specialist will conduct four breast X-rays, and attendees are advised not to use talcum powder or deodorant sprays on the examination day to ensure accurate results. The NHS reassures that any discomfort during the procedure should subside quickly, but lingering pain should be addressed by consulting a GP.

Results letters usually arrive within two weeks, and while a delay may not necessarily indicate a problem, concerned individuals are advised to contact their local screening service for updates.
If further tests are required, individuals will be invited for a breast assessment appointment, and a specialist team will provide details on obtaining results.
