Unexpected Yellow Sticker Savings at My Local Sainsbury’s

For savvy shoppers, yellow-sticker deals are a supermarket dream come true. These discounted items, marked down as they near their best-before dates, cover everything from fresh produce and dairy to bakery treats and ready meals. It’s a win for both the retailer, who reduces food waste, and customers, who enjoy significant savings on everyday essentials.

Living just a two-minute walk from Sainsbury’s, I popped in for a few basics—potatoes, bacon, ham, and tomatoes. To my surprise, I found an impressive array of yellow-sticker items available well before the usual evening markdown times.

Typically, I browse for Nectar card offers and yellow stickers between 5pm and 7pm. But at around 1:30pm on this visit, the store was already stocked with discounted goods across three key sections.

In the fruit and vegetable aisles, the markdowns were remarkable. Swede, tenderstem broccoli, potatoes, oranges, and pineapple chunks were all reduced. The tenderstem broccoli, usually £1.60, was just 40p—a steal. Perfectly fresh and vibrant, this was a rare find, as discounted broccoli often looks less appealing with yellowing florets.

I grabbed a swede for only 15p, also fresh and firm. Roasting tenderstem broccoli with olive oil, lemon, and parmesan is one of my favorite dishes, making this bargain especially welcome.

Moving on to the meat section, I spotted discounted chicken thighs for £3.45, pork ribs at £2.72, and 20% fat beef mince reduced to £1.90. Though these reductions weren’t as deep as the produce discounts, they offered good value.

Since meat wasn’t on my list, I picked up some ham and noticed a variety of ready meals, snacks, pizzas, and puddings also heavily discounted. Among the deals were a sausage-filled Yorkshire pudding reduced from £4.15 to £2, Taste The Difference vintage cheddar and bacon sausage rolls now £1.32 instead of £3.25, and a cherry pie at £1.92 down from £3.85.

In hindsight, I regret not grabbing the cinnamon bun pudding marked down to £2.15 from £4.35—a sweet deal that slipped past me.

This unexpected lunchtime bounty shows that yellow sticker discounts can appear at unexpected times, making it worthwhile to check for bargains whenever you shop.
