This afternoon, a high-speed pursuit on the M5 resulted in damage to two police vehicles as officers attempted to stop a wanted man.
At approximately 1pm on Tuesday, December 16, Gloucestershire Constabulary successfully brought a suspect’s vehicle to a halt between Junctions 9 and 10 on the northbound carriageway of the M5.
Authorities reported using tactical maneuvers to safely end the chase. The driver, wanted on suspicion of supplying Class A drugs and conspiracy to commit robbery, was arrested on the scene.

During the incident, an object was thrown from the suspect’s vehicle across the motorway onto the southbound carriageway. For safety reasons, police temporarily halted traffic in both directions to recover the item, after which the road was reopened.
While the chase caused damage to two police cars and the suspect’s vehicle, no injuries were reported.
A Gloucestershire Constabulary spokesperson stated: “Officers acted swiftly to stop the vehicle on the M5 northbound between junctions 9 and 10. The driver was apprehended on suspicion of Class A drug supply and conspiracy to commit robbery. Damage occurred to police and suspect vehicles, though thankfully no one was hurt. Due to an item being thrown onto the southbound carriageway, traffic was temporarily stopped so officers could safely recover it. We thank motorists for their patience during this incident.”
