Two men were arrested this morning following a police pursuit on the M5 near Gloucester.
According to Gloucestershire Police, officers from the Roads Policing Unit were alerted around 10:20am to a stolen Nissan Qashqai travelling southbound on the M5. The car was reported to be in close convoy with a motorcycle.
The car’s driver, a man in his 20s from Gloucester, was stopped and arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle between junctions 9 and 10.

The accompanying motorcyclist failed to stop, prompting a police pursuit. The motorcyclist was eventually brought to a halt on the southbound carriageway just before junction 11.
During the incident, the motorcyclist came off his bike and paramedics attended the scene. He was taken to hospital for assessment and was later discharged.
The motorcyclist, also a man in his 20s from Gloucester, was arrested on multiple charges, including failing to stop for police, dangerous driving, driving without a proper licence, driving without insurance, and breaching a community order.
Both men remain in police custody.
Traffic was disrupted temporarily due to the incident. National Highways reported approximately 30-minute delays with tailbacks extending around three miles between Tewkesbury and Cheltenham. By 1:30pm, all lanes of the M5 had reopened, and traffic was easing.
Initially, traffic monitoring site Inrix had mistaken the event for a multi-vehicle collision.
Police investigations are ongoing.
