Tuffley Rovers secured a memorable 2-0 victory over local rivals Longlevens at the R B Walters Estate Agents Stadium in Glevum Park, ending a 10-year home winless run against the visitors.
The decisive goals came courtesy of forward Connor Walters, who struck twice. His first goal arrived swiftly just nine seconds into the second half, as he found himself through on goal one-on-one and calmly finished past Longlevens’ keeper Drew Brei. Walters sealed the win with a late stoppage-time goal, capitalising on a counter-attack to chip the ball over the advancing goalkeeper, in a move reminiscent of his earlier strike.
Despite a goalless first half, the match was far from dull. Both sides created chances, with Tuffley enjoying the majority of possession and opportunities. The standout chance against the run of play occurred when Longlevens’ Finlay Gwillim broke through for a one-on-one but narrowly missed his effort.

A contentious refereeing decision late in the first half saw Tuffley goalkeeper Luke Merchant appear to handle the ball outside his area, but no foul was awarded, leaving the Longlevens bench visibly surprised.
Tuffley dominated the half and showed their intent with a late flurry, including a 30-yard strike from Jacob Eakers that rattled the crossbar and a close-range attempt by Antonio Pirelli that narrowly missed.
The second half saw Tuffley convert their dominance immediately from kick-off with Walters’ clinical finish. Longlevens struggled to create meaningful chances and were limited to a solitary threat from Gwillim, who again failed to score.
With 15 minutes remaining, tensions flared following a robust two-footed tackle by Tuffley’s Callum McGuirk, leading to a brief on-pitch confrontation. Despite the scuffle, both teams maintained full strength on the field.
The victory lifts Tuffley Rovers into third place in the Hellenic Premier League, while Longlevens remain winless in six matches, holding just two points.
Rovers manager Neil Mustoe praised Connor Walters’s performance, noting, “He proved today he can finish, and although he could have scored three or four, his form is encouraging. This is the kind of spell every striker hopes for, and hopefully it continues.”
Mustoe also emphasised the importance of squad depth, saying, “We were down on our knees after Saturday’s game, so relying on the whole squad is vital if we want a successful season.”
Looking ahead, Mustoe stated, “Our aim is consistent progression-improving on last season’s points and league position, targeting a top-eight finish.”
Longlevens co-manager Peter Boyle acknowledged the disappointment of the defeat in a local derby. “We weren’t at the level required from the start and were second best in every aspect. Tuffley fully deserved the win.”
Boyle also addressed the disputed refereeing decision, explaining that the officials had claimed the goalkeeper had not handled the ball outside the box, a conclusion he described as “nonsense.” He added, “While it didn’t determine the outcome, it reflects a worrying trend of incorrect decisions affecting both teams lately.”
The match was officiated by referee James Curran, with an attendance of 331 spectators.
