This afternoon, Friday, May 23, a group belonging to the travelling community arrived in Cheltenham and set up camp in Pittville Park. Around six caravans and several vehicles were spotted near the skate park area of this Grade II-listed park, which is recognized on the English Heritage register of historic parks and gardens.
The group is believed to have arrived at approximately 3pm, though the length of their intended stay remains unknown. Cheltenham Borough Council is aware of the situation and is actively working with partner agencies to address it.
A spokesperson for the council commented, “We are aware of the situation and are working with partner agencies to get this resolved.” The council’s priority is to balance respecting the needs of the travelling community while protecting the historic parkland they have temporarily occupied.
