Traffic chaos in Gloucester due to prolonged road closures

Gloucester motorists have been enduring severe delays due to the extended closure of the A417 Over Causeway caused by a water leak. The closure, compounded by the shutdown of Westgate Bridge, has led to congested alternative routes and significant inconvenience for drivers.

Initial hopes of a prompt resolution were dashed as the repair work progressed slower than expected. Despite assurances from Gloucester County Council Highways, Severn Trent Water indicated that the road was unlikely to reopen by the following morning. Conflicting messages from the utility company added to the frustration, with social media users expressing disappointment and disbelief at the ongoing inconvenience.

Severn Trent Water acknowledged the situation and offered apologies for the disruption, emphasizing the need for safety measures and the completion of the road surface restoration. As tensions flared amidst the gridlock, a gesture of goodwill came from the employees of B&Q, who distributed water to stranded motorists at the St Oswalds Retail Park.
