Gloucester commuters were left frustrated as the A417 Over Causeway remained closed due to ongoing water leak repairs, causing severe gridlock and long delays. Additional closures at the Westgate Bridge further complicated traffic flow, leaving drivers stuck in extensive queues throughout the city.
Hopes for the A417 reopening were dashed as Gloucester County Council Highways announced that repairs by Severn Trent Water were still ongoing and the road was unlikely to reopen by the next morning. Despite an initial claim of repair completion by Severn Trent Water, the closure remained in place as the road surface required time to set.
The delay was met with disappointment on social media, with one user criticizing the utility company for taking their time to address the reported leak, causing inconvenience to the people of Gloucester.

In response, Severn Trent Water acknowledged the impact on commuters and assured that efforts were being made to return the road to normalcy as swiftly as possible.
Notably, the gridlock prompted a local DIY store to distribute free bottles of water to stranded motorists at St Oswalds Retail Park, providing some relief amid the commuting chaos.
