Arsenal legend Tony Adams has opened up about his decision to sell his £4 million Cotswolds property to Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher, a move prompted by his wife Poppy Teacher’s desire to pursue higher education.
The couple, who have owned the Cirencester estate since 2002, listed the home for sale in December last year. They are now relocating to London to support Poppy’s university studies. Adams and Poppy initially purchased the property for approximately half its current market value.
The estate is well-appointed, featuring amenities such as a swimming pool, tennis courts, stables, and a separate two-bedroom cottage. However, the couple felt it was time to move closer to educational opportunities as Poppy begins a new chapter.

Speaking to The Mail, Adams said, “This is a new era for us. We’ve sold the house and are returning to London. My wife is going back to school.”
Poppy, 53, is embarking on a Master’s degree in early modern history. She shared that Adams was initially puzzled by her decision, asking, “How do you monetise that?” to which she replied, “You don’t!” She added that he is now proudly telling everyone about her academic pursuits, though she clarified her course is a Master’s rather than a PhD.
She explained her motivation, saying she felt “the need to use my brain again” after years focused on raising their three children: Atticus, Hector and Iris. Tony Adams also has two children, Oliver and Amber, from his previous marriage to Jane Shea.
Meanwhile, Liam Gallagher has moved into the former Adams residence with his fiancée Debbie Gwyther and their rescue dog, Buttons. Gallagher has warmly praised his new neighbours on social media, sharing, “They’ve not stopped baking me cakes and scones.”
The Cotswolds continues to attract high-profile residents seeking a peaceful countryside lifestyle, with celebrities such as Simon Cowell, the Beckhams and Kate Moss among notable neighbours. Reportedly, Liam funded the purchase through earnings from Oasis’s ‘Live 25’ world tour.
A source told The Sun, “Liam loves the countryside and the house is the perfect retreat following the mammoth Oasis tour. He’s fond of his rescue dog Buttons and wanted a home with plenty of outdoor space. He also enjoys hosting and looks forward to welcoming friends and family to the home.”
