Tom Pett Joins Oldham Athletic on Two-Year Deal After Successful Loan from Cheltenham Town

Oldham Athletic has secured the permanent signing of midfielder Tom Pett after a standout loan spell from Cheltenham Town. The 33-year-old, who previously played for clubs including Lincoln City, Stevenage, and Port Vale, played a vital role in Oldham’s promotion back to the English Football League during the 2024/25 season.

Pett rejoined Oldham on loan midway through last season and quickly became an integral part of the team, contributing to their victorious National League play-off final against Southend United at Wembley. With his contract at Cheltenham Town expiring this month, Pett has committed to a two-year contract at Boundary Park.

During his loan, Pett made 24 appearances for Oldham, and alongside former Cheltenham defender Charlie Raglan, he was crucial to Micky Mellon’s squad. Reflecting on his permanent move, Pett said, “I really enjoyed my time here last season. From the moment I arrived, I felt settled and part of something special. I believe we can achieve great things this season. Signing for two more years was an easy decision.”

Manager Micky Mellon praised Pett’s impact, stating, “Tom brought real composure and intelligence to our midfield. His influence on and off the pitch was outstanding. He’s a great professional who understands this level perfectly, and we’re thrilled to have him permanently back in our squad as we aim to keep progressing.”
