Celebrity chef Tom Kerridge has revealed a new chapter in his health journey following his successful battle with alcohol addiction. Once known for drinking “pints of Negroni” and tipping the scales at almost 30 stone, Tom is now teetotal and has shed an impressive 12 stone over five years.
In an industry known for its pressures, Tom previously used alcohol as an escape from the demands of the kitchen. However, he has since conquered his addiction and embraced a healthier lifestyle, sharing insights in recent interviews about a fresh diagnosis that brings new understanding to his life.
Tom has been diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), a condition he uniquely views as a “superpower.” According to The Times’ Andrew Billen, Tom described ADHD as allowing him to “work on many different levels, constantly, all the time,” highlighting how it fuels his creativity and energy.

When asked about any connection between ADHD and his previous drinking habits, Tom acknowledged the “chaos” he loved about drinking but explained that alcohol addiction stems from a selfish place—a private escape where one is alone with their feelings.
ADHD affects brain function differently from most people, typically involving challenges with concentration, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. Symptoms can range from distractibility and restlessness to impulsive decisions and talking excessively. Despite these challenges, Tom embraces his diagnosis as a key part of his dynamic personality and career.
Reflecting on his past, Tom once admitted to consuming staggering amounts of alcohol during nights out—including up to 20 pints of lager, two pints of Negroni, and a pint of gin. Speaking on the Comfort Eating podcast, he described how these habits were once his reality, but his decision to stop drinking marked a huge turning point.
On The Andy Jaye Podcast in 2021, Tom spoke candidly about the massive lifestyle changes he made, emphasizing that quitting alcohol was a crucial step in “stopping trying to be a massive idiot.”
Today, Tom Kerridge is not only thriving as a chef but also openly discusses ADHD, encouraging others to see the condition’s potential benefits.
