Tom Allen Steps Down as Host of The Apprentice: You’re Fired After Six Years

Tom Allen has officially announced his decision to step down as host of the BBC’s The Apprentice: You’re Fired, concluding a memorable six-year run. The 42-year-old comedian and broadcaster shared the news through an Instagram video message, explaining that the timing was right to explore new opportunities ahead.

“After six years, I’ve decided to say goodbye to The Apprentice: You’re Fired,” Allen said. “I’ve had so much fun working with the most incredible creative people to make it all happen.” He humorously added that he feared Lord Sugar might eventually realize “I know nothing about business.”

Since taking the helm in 2019, Allen has become an integral part of the show’s companion format. His sharp wit, quick humour, and warm personality helped create a lively atmosphere where participants face tough questioning from a studio audience. His departure signals a major change for fans of the show, who have expressed deep disappointment on social media.

One viewer shared, “Oh no Tom! I do hope you’re not going to disappear from our screens completely!” Another reflected, “It certainly won’t be the same without you. Good luck with whatever you decide to do next.” A third fan added, “No one else could match you as host. You are simply the best.”

In his farewell, Allen thanked Lord Sugar, Karren Brady, and Tim Campbell for their support over the years. He also acknowledged the many contestants and guest panellists who contributed to the show’s success.

Tributes from co-stars swiftly followed. Lord Sugar called working with Allen “a pleasure” and admitted he hadn’t realized how funny Allen was at first. Tim Campbell commended the host for bringing “warmth, wit, and wicked whistles” to the programme, while Karren Brady praised his dedication over five series.

The official The Apprentice: You’re Fired social channels echoed these sentiments, hailing Allen as “the most wonderful host” and wishing him the best in future ventures.

Fans have been speculating about Allen’s next career move, with some hopeful he may join another high-profile BBC show like Strictly Come Dancing. Supporters eagerly voiced their desire to see him on the ballroom dance floor, with one commenting, “Oh I do hope you present Strictly! The show needs you!”

Hailing from Bromley, Kent, Tom Allen first gained recognition by winning the “So You Think You’re Funny?” award at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2005. Since then, he has built a diverse career spanning stand-up comedy, theatre, authorship, music, and television.

While Allen hinted at upcoming new projects, the BBC has yet to reveal who will succeed him as host of The Apprentice: You’re Fired.
