Tom Allen has announced that he is stepping down as host of The Apprentice: You’re Fired after six memorable years at the helm. The 42-year-old comedian and broadcaster shared the news with fans through a heartfelt Instagram video, expressing gratitude for the incredible experience and hinting at exciting new ventures ahead.
“After six years, I’ve decided to say goodbye to The Apprentice: You’re Fired,” Allen revealed. “I’ve had so much fun working with the most incredible creative people to make it all happen.” He humorously added that he worried Lord Sugar might one day “realise I know nothing about business.”
Since taking over in 2019, Allen became a defining presence on the BBC spin-off, skillfully combining sharp wit and warmth as he interviewed eliminated contestants amid a lively studio audience. His departure marks a significant change for the programme, with fans reacting emotionally online.

“Oh no Tom! I do hope you’re not going to disappear from our screens completely!” one viewer wrote, while another reflected, “So sad. It certainly won’t be the same without you. Good luck with whatever you decide to do next.” A third fan praised Allen’s unique hosting style: “To whoever the next host of You’re Fired is, they will be no match to you. You’re the only one who could master it!”
In his farewell message, Allen extended thanks not only to the show’s notable figures—Lord Sugar, Karren Brady, and Tim Campbell—but also to the numerous contestants and guest panellists who contributed to the show’s success over the years.
Tributes flowed from his co-stars as well. Lord Sugar called working with Allen “a pleasure” and admitted he “didn’t realise how funny” Allen was at first. Tim Campbell lauded the host for bringing “warmth, wit and wicked whistles” to the programme, and Karren Brady expressed deep gratitude for his five-series run.
The official social media accounts for The Apprentice: You’re Fired echoed these sentiments, describing Allen as “the most wonderful host” and wishing him well for future endeavours.
Speculation about Allen’s next move is already rife, with many fans hoping to see him take on a high-profile hosting role elsewhere on the BBC, particularly on Strictly Come Dancing. “Oh I do hope you are going to present Strictly! The show needs you!” one enthusiastic supporter commented.
Hailing from Bromley, Kent, Allen first made his mark by winning the So You Think You’re Funny? award at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2005. Since then, he has built a diverse career as a stand-up comedian, actor, author, musician, and broadcaster.
As Tom Allen looks ahead to new opportunities, the BBC has yet to reveal who will take over as host of The Apprentice: You’re Fired, leaving fans eager for the next chapter in the show’s journey.
