Tiny Kitten Rescued from Gloucestershire Waste Plant Using Recorded Meows and Custom Walkway

A tiny tortoiseshell kitten experienced a remarkable rescue after being discovered hiding within the Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility. The discovery sparked a thoughtful and creative rescue operation by the plant’s staff.

During routine operations at the Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility, employees noticed the kitten inside the Tipping Hall. To coax the hesitant feline to safety, workers broadcast recorded kitten meows over the facility’s public address system. Alongside the sounds, they built a specially designed walkway to guide the kitten to reception safely.

Once safely secured, the kitten was given time to calm down before being taken for a veterinary health check. Despite a social media appeal to locate her owner, no one came forward. Ultimately, the kitten was adopted by a member of the operational team and his partner.

Now named Callie, she is reported to be comfortably settled and thriving in her new home.

Rob Hayward, general manager of the facility, expressed pride in the rescue: “Finding a kitten isn’t something we expect at an Energy from Waste Facility, but thanks to our vigilant procedures, we were able to spot and save her. We’re happy to hear she’s doing well in her new, loving home.”

The Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility is operated by FCC Environment, a leading UK recycling and waste management company that recycles 1.5 million tonnes of waste annually and generates over 132MW of renewable energy.
