A tiny tortoiseshell kitten was rescued from inside the Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility after workers spotted her hiding in the Tipping Hall during routine operations. The rescue team used an inventive approach, playing recorded kitten meows over the public address system to lure the frightened feline out of hiding.
To ensure her safe exit, staff constructed a dedicated walkway leading to the reception area where the kitten could feel secure. After being coaxed out, she was given time to adjust before receiving a thorough health check from a veterinarian.
Despite efforts to locate her owner through a social media appeal, no one came forward. The little kitten, now named Callie, was adopted by one of the facility’s operational staff members and his partner. She has since settled happily into her new home.

Rob Hayward, the facility’s general manager, commented, “Finding a kitten at an Energy from Waste Facility is unexpected, but thanks to our vigilant staff and procedures, we were able to rescue her. We’re delighted she is now thriving in a comfortable, loving environment.”
Operated by FCC Environment, the Gloucestershire facility recycles 1.5 million tonnes of waste annually and produces over 132MW of green energy, demonstrating their commitment to sustainable waste management.
