Tiny Beatles-Signed Address Book to Be Auctioned in the Cotswolds

A rare and tiny address book bearing the authentic autographs of all four Beatles members is heading to auction near Bristol later this month.

This address book, originally produced in the 1960s as an advertising giveaway by an Italian restaurant, was unexpectedly signed by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr during a spontaneous visit. The incident occurred at Oddi’s Restaurant on Goldhawk Road in Shepherds Bush, west London, located near the old BBC Television Centre.

According to family lore, the Beatles had just finished filming a BBC program and stopped by Oddi’s for a meal. A waitress working there quickly handed them the small notepad—measuring just 10cm by 7cm—to sign, resulting in this extraordinary keepsake.

The book’s rear cover prominently features the embossed name and address of Oddi’s Restaurant, a popular venue amongst celebrities in the 1960s and 1970s. The Beatles’ numerous appearances on BBC shows like Pops and Lenny, Juke Box Jury, Blue Peter, and their iconic 1967 performance during the global Our World broadcast of “All You Need Is Love” provide context to their close ties with the area.

Now, over 60 years later, the address book is set to be auctioned by Wotton Auction Rooms during a two-day sale on December 30 and 31. Auction house managing director Joseph Trinder highlights that the item is estimated to fetch between £800 and £1,200, though its value could potentially exceed this range.

“Discoveries like these are what auctioneers dream of finding—an intimate piece of British music history that fits in the palm of your hand,” Trinder remarked.
