The prestigious Great British Pub Awards are back for 2026, and Gloucestershire is proudly represented with three pubs shortlisted as finalists. Known as “the Oscars” of the pub industry, these awards have celebrated Britain’s finest pubs since 1999, shining a spotlight on the dedication and hard work of pub teams across the country.
This year’s ceremony will take place on September 23 at Leeds’ First Direct Bank Arena, described as “the UK’s greatest pub party.” It’s a unique event where pub teams nationwide unite, share their stories, and celebrate their contributions to Britain’s beloved pub culture.
Among the finalists are three standout Gloucestershire pubs renowned for their community spirit, family-friendly atmosphere, and town pub charm.

The Coach and Horses, located on St Catherine Street near Kingsholm Stadium, has quickly made an impression since reopening under new management in February 2026. This 16th-century half-timbered gem is shortlisted for Best Community Pub, competing against venues from the West Midlands to Dorset. Open daily with varied hours throughout the week, the pub collaborates with Gloucester Docks' own independent toastie brand, On Toast, serving delicious toasted sandwiches that complement its welcoming atmosphere. The team expressed heartfelt gratitude on social media, thanking patrons for supporting their vision of a true community pub.
Returning as finalists for the second consecutive year is The Plough in Prestbury, nominated again in the Best Pub for Families category. This picturesque 17th-century thatched-roof establishment prides itself on creating an inclusive environment that welcomes every generation—from grandparents to dogs. The Plough competes alongside pubs from London, Norfolk, and nearby Bristol. The team credits their success to their dedicated staff who strive daily to make the pub a warm and enjoyable space for all families. Their kitchen offers lunch and dinner services with family-friendly opening hours throughout the week.
Completing Gloucestershire’s trio of finalists is Dr Foster in Gloucester Docks, a recognized gastro-pub housed in a striking historic warehouse by the waterfront. Already honored earlier this year at the National Pub and Bar Awards, Dr Foster is now shortlisted as Best Town Pub. The pub offers all-day dining from brunch through to dinner, with extensive opening hours to accommodate visitors. While the team has yet to publicly comment on their nomination, their updated Instagram proudly marks them as Great British Pub of the Year 2026 finalists, highlighting their consistent pursuit of excellence.
These nominations underscore Gloucestershire’s vibrant pub culture and the commitment of these establishments to offer exceptional experiences for their communities. As the September awards approach, anticipation builds to see which pub will take home the coveted titles.
