Three Gloucestershire Pubs Named Finalists in 2026 Great British Pub Awards

The Great British Pub Awards are back, and this year, three pubs from Gloucestershire have been named finalists. Known as “the Oscars” of the pub industry, these awards have celebrated excellence in British pubs since 1999, shining a spotlight on the hard work and dedication of pub teams across the country.

The 2026 awards ceremony will be held on September 23 at the First Direct Bank Arena in Leeds. Described as “the UK’s greatest pub party,” the event offers an opportunity for pub teams nationwide to network, share stories, and toast to their craft.

Among the finalists, Gloucestershire proudly sees three of its beloved pubs in contention:

  1. The Coach and Horses, Gloucester
Nestled on St Catherine Street near Kingsholm Stadium, The Coach and Horses reopened under new management in February 2026 and has already made a remarkable impression. This 16th-century, half-timbered venue has been shortlisted for the Best Community Pub category, competing with establishments from the West Midlands, Merseyside, Berkshire, Norfolk, and Dorset.
The pub operates seven days a week, offering partnerships with local independent brands like On Toast to serve delicious toasted sandwiches. The team expressed their excitement and gratitude on Facebook, thanking the community for their support in transforming the pub into a vibrant local hub.

  2. The Plough, Prestbury
For the second consecutive year, The Plough has been shortlisted as a finalist in the Best Pub for Families category. Located on Mill Street, this 17th-century, thatched-roof gem is celebrated for its welcoming atmosphere for all ages — from young children to grandparents, and even family dogs. Open throughout the week, The Plough offers ample dining hours and a play area. The team credits their success to their dedicated staff and commitment to creating a space that truly invites families to enjoy quality time together.

  3. Dr Foster, Gloucester Docks
Not new to national recognition, Dr Foster was recently nominated at the National Pub and Bar Awards and is now a finalist for Best Town Pub at the Great British Pub Awards. Housed in a historic warehouse by the waterfront, this gastro-pub is an ideal spot for relaxed dining and drinks. Open daily, it serves food from brunch through to dinner. Celebrating their finalist status, Dr Foster updated their social media to proudly reflect their achievement.

With strong competition from across the UK, these three Gloucestershire pubs embody the excellence, community spirit, and charm celebrated by the Great British Pub Awards. As the September ceremony approaches, the county’s pub scene looks set to shine on a national stage once again.
