Three Die in Fire at Former RAF Base After Part of Building Collapses

Three individuals lost their lives in a devastating fire at the former RAF base in Oxfordshire, after part of the building collapsed. Firefighters Martyn Sadler, 38, and Jennie Logan, 30, died alongside David Chester, 57, a member of the public who bravely assisted during the incident at Bicester Motion on May 15.

Thames Valley Police confirmed that post-mortem examinations revealed all three died from multiple traumatic injuries consistent with structural collapse. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and the deaths are being treated as unexplained.

Two other firefighters sustained serious injuries and are currently hospitalized in stable condition.

Assistant Chief Constable Dennis Murray expressed condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the deceased and injured. He stated that the Major Crime Unit is leading the inquiry, working alongside fire investigators and the Health and Safety Executive to determine the cause and circumstances surrounding this tragic event.

Tributes poured in from the families of the victims. Jennie Logan’s relatives honored her bravery and determination, describing her as “a force to be reckoned with” who never hesitated when duty called. David Chester’s family remembered him as a dependable man who selflessly helped firefighters without hesitation. Martyn Sadler’s family highlighted his lifelong passion for firefighting, rooted in a strong family tradition.

This heartbreaking incident has deeply affected many, highlighting the dangers faced by those who serve and the courage shown by members of the community.
