Three individuals have appeared in court charged in connection with a fatal shooting at a traveller site in Wiltshire.
Shane Porter, 35, is accused of the murder of Jimmy Ward, 36, at Calcutt near Cricklade on Sunday. He also faces a charge of possessing a shotgun without a certificate.
He appeared by video-link at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Thursday alongside his father, Eddie Porter, 74, and Tammy Brown, 42. Both Eddie Porter and Brown are charged with assisting an offender and possessing a shotgun without a certificate.

All three defendants, with Shane Porter residing at Calcutt Park, and Eddie Porter and Tammy Brown from Luton, Bedfordshire, were remanded into custody during the hearing.
Dr Margaret Elsey, chairwoman of the bench, stated: “Mr Shane Porter, no application for bail was made; you will appear tomorrow at Bristol Crown Court at 10am. Mr Eddie Porter and Ms Tammy Brown, you are remanded in custody and will also be produced at Bristol Crown Court at 10am.”
During the hearing, the defendants, all wearing grey tracksuits, sat together and confirmed their personal details to the court. Legal representation was provided by Michael Levy for Shane Porter, Terry McCarthy for Eddie Porter, and Adithi Shenava for Brown.
Wiltshire Police were alerted at approximately 8.15am on Sunday by the South Western Ambulance Service, reporting a man had been shot at the traveller site. Upon arrival, emergency services confirmed that Mr Ward had died at the scene.
Prosecutor Keith Ballinger explained, “An incident occurred at the traveller site over the weekend in which it is alleged that Shane Porter shot and killed Mr Ward.”
Following the shooting, it is alleged that Eddie Porter and Tammy Brown travelled from Luton to Swindon. Their vehicle was intercepted by firearms officers shortly after leaving the M4 at the Hungerford junction on Tuesday. A shotgun believed to be linked to the fatal shooting was recovered.
All three defendants are scheduled to appear at Bristol Crown Court on Friday morning to continue their case.
