Since its debut in 2017, The Repair Shop has showcased the restoration of a wide array of cherished items, from worn-down shoes and tattered teddy bears to delicate paintings and deteriorating jewelry. The BBC’s team of experts consistently demonstrate their skills in bringing these items back to life, although the process is not without its challenges.
Horologist Steve Fletcher, a beloved cast member, recently shared some of his experiences with difficult repairs. Recalling an old antique steamboat, Steve admitted, “It was beautiful, so well made that I didn’t think I was going to get it going. I was a bit worried about it.” Despite his initial concerns, he ultimately succeeded, evoking the joy of childhood as the boat was launched on the water.
More recently, on Morning Live, Steve discussed another tough restoration project involving an old rusty till. Describing the process as a struggle initially, he revealed, “I almost had to break into it!” Despite the challenges, the eventual reunion of the owner with the restored till brought him immense satisfaction.

Steve’s family history in horology adds a deeper layer to his passion for restoration, with both his father and grandfather being horologists as well. His son, Fred, has also embraced this family tradition and appeared on the show. Steve’s sister, Suzie, adds her expertise as the barn’s resident leather expert.
The Repair Shop continues to captivate viewers with its heartwarming stories of restoration and reunion, with Steve and the team’s dedication shining through in every episode.
