The Repair Shop’s Dominic Chinea Opens Up About the Challenges of His New Life in Cornwall

Dominic Chinea, known for his work on BBC One’s The Repair Shop, has shared a candid glimpse into his hectic new life in Cornwall as he tackles the extensive renovation of his family’s property.

During a Q&A on his YouTube channel, Dominic offered fans an honest update on settling into his new surroundings. While his beloved Spanish Water Dog, Wendy, is thriving in their new environment, Dominic admits the transition has been far from smooth.

“Wendy is settling in a lot better than us; she’s absolutely loving it,” he said. “As for me, I’m managing, but with filming and everything else, it’s been a lot to juggle. It’s all still quite chaotic to be honest. The most important thing, though, is that Wendy is happy.”

When asked about his reasons for relocating to Cornwall, Dominic highlighted the stunning scenery and the freedom that comes with owning his own property — a marked change from his former life in Kent.

“I lived in Kent before, with a nice garden and countryside, so it was lovely,” he explained. “But moving to Cornwall means I have the house, a beautiful field to develop into a garden, and most importantly, a large barn that’s now my workshop. Previously, I rented my workshop, paying a landlord monthly, but now it’s mine to use as I please.”

Although the renovation demands considerable effort, Dominic appreciates the sense of ownership. “There’s a lot of work to do, but at least it’s mine. Things are a little compromised right now, but I’m working on it. Plus, Cornwall is such a beautiful place to be.”

Besides sharing home updates, Dominic has also kept fans informed about Wendy’s health. His six-and-a-half-year-old Spanish Water Dog recently experienced some health issues, prompting vet visits and blood tests.

“It’s been a tough time because she hasn’t been well,” he revealed. “She’s been a bit sad and not herself. The vets think it might be an infection, but her blood tests came back fine. Fortunately, she’s eating, drinking, and gaining energy again, so we’re hopeful. She’s definitely enjoying life here in Cornwall.”

Dominic Chinea will appear on tonight’s episode of The Repair Shop on the Road, airing Wednesday, June 25 at 8pm on BBC One.
