The Repair Shop’s Dominic Chinea Announces Departure as He Gears Up for New TV Project

Dominic Chinea, the skilled metalworker known for restoring cherished family antiques on The Repair Shop, has surprised fans by announcing his decision to step away from the acclaimed BBC series. Since his debut on the show in 2017, Dominic has captivated audiences with his expertise, breathing new life into treasured heirlooms. Now, he is preparing to embark on a fresh and “secret” television project that promises to be equally exciting.

Speaking to his YouTube subscribers, Dominic revealed that he recently acquired an old Land Rover Defender, which will play a central role in his upcoming show. “I’ve got myself a new Defender — a TD5 2000 or 2001, long 110 pickup,” he shared. “It’s currently in the workshop on axle stands because it needs fixing, which I hadn’t anticipated. But this is more than just a project for me.”

Hinting at the project’s adventurous nature, Dominic added, “The real reason I bought the Defender, which I’m keeping under wraps for now, is because I’m working on a new TV show. We’re just getting started, and I’m already thrilled with how things are progressing. I can’t wait to share more details, especially when we’re out driving the Defender, if I can get it back on the road.”

Dominic expressed hope that viewers will enjoy this new venture as much as he has enjoyed being part of The Repair Shop. Though mindful that he might have revealed more than intended, he offered an apology: “I probably shouldn’t have said so much yet, so sorry to anyone telling me I’ve spilled the beans.”

In addition to his upcoming TV project, Dominic will continue contributing to heritage conservation. He is joining forces with fellow Repair Shop favorite Will Kirk and a team of masons training to restore the historic stonework at York Minster.

As Dominic embarks on this exciting new chapter, fans can still catch The Repair Shop’s latest episodes, with the show returning on BBC One at 8 pm on June 11.
