For nearly ten years, Dominic Chinea has gained recognition for restoring treasured family heirlooms on the BBC’s popular series The Repair Shop. This month, fans have the chance to see Dominic in a fresh light with his own solo show, marking a new chapter in his career.
His new five-episode series, Dom Chinea’s Cornish Workshop, follows the skilled craftsman as he embarks on a fresh adventure in Cornwall with his wife Maria and their dog Wendy. The show debuted recently on U and U Yesterday, giving viewers a glimpse of Dominic’s hands-on approach as he restores a worn sea pool near Mousehole and acquires a rundown vintage Land Rover for restoration.
Sharing his excitement on social media, Dominic posted a photo alongside fellow contributor Sam Lovegrove, inviting fans to share their thoughts on the show. “Dom’s Cornish Workshop is out!! Did you watch the first episode on U? I’d love to know what you thought of it,” he wrote. He went on to praise his collaboration with Sam and encouraged viewers to stream the series.

The audience reaction was swift and overwhelmingly positive. One enthusiastic fan commented, “Brilliant show. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the first episode and downloaded the stream on U app so I could watch the next episode straight away.” Another confessed, “Binge-watched the whole series today, didn’t intend to, but really enjoyed it and can’t wait for more.” Others chimed in with praise for the stunning Cornish backdrop and Dominic’s engaging restoration work.
Before filming, Dominic spoke candidly about adjusting to life in Cornwall. He revealed the challenges of navigating the region’s narrow lanes, admitting, “Cornish lanes are so narrow and so tight - especially round here, I’m always forced to drive into the bush, scraping the side of my van on brambles and bushes. It brings me to tears almost every time.” Still, he found satisfaction in using rare antique machinery to maintain the lanes, including breaking down rubble with a rock crusher.
Dom Chinea’s Cornish Workshop is currently available to watch on U, U Yesterday, and Channel 4, offering fans a fresh look at Dominic’s craftsmanship against the picturesque Cornish landscape.
