The excitement is on as The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer returns to television screens, featuring a lineup of well-known personalities testing their baking abilities. Among the new batch of celebrities, acclaimed figures such as Kate Garraway, Gloria Hunniford, and Amelia Dimoldenberg are taking on the challenge to impress judges Paul Hollywood and Caroline Waldegrave, who has taken over for Prue Leith.
Joining the fray is none other than singer and actress Self Esteem, who is set to make her debut on the show during the upcoming episode scheduled on March 6th.
Before taking the stage name Self Esteem, the talented artist was known as Rebecca Lucy Taylor. Embracing the name change in 2015, she delved into various artistic ventures, showcasing her talents in paintings and short films. Interestingly, she revealed that the name had been in her mind for about six years before she officially adopted it. Speaking on BBC Introducing, she shared, “I wanted to call it Sex Appeal or Self Esteem…cos band names are bad, there’s no good ones. But I probably should have just called it Rebecca Lucy Taylor!”

In a significant turning point, Rebecca drew inspiration from RuPaul’s Drag Race, which instilled in her the confidence to pursue a solo career, having previously performed as part of a band. Notably, she acknowledges musician Jamie T for encouraging her to release her early music.
The year 2018 marked a pivotal milestone in her career as she secured a record deal and unveiled her debut album, leading to performances at major festivals like Glastonbury and Latitude. Following this success, she released her second album, “Prioritise Pleasure,” in 2021, accompanied by a series of well-received singles. The momentum continued with sold-out tours and appearances at various festivals, culminating in the upcoming release of her third album, “A Complicated Woman,” scheduled for April 25.
Further underscoring her impact, in 2023, Rebecca was bestowed the honorary title of Doctor of Music at the University of Sheffield, and her photographic portrait has been enshrined in the National Portrait Gallery in London.
Beyond her music persona, Rebecca is an avid supporter of Sheffield Wednesday FC, a connection stemming from her great-grandfather’s association with the club as a player. Additionally, she has been candid about her journey to improve her mental well-being through therapy and has openly identified herself as bisexual during interviews, while her current relationship status remains undisclosed.
As viewers eagerly await her baking prowess on the show, Celebrity Bake Off airs on Sundays at 8pm on Channel 4.
