The Family Life of Countryfile Star Matt Baker

Matt Baker, a beloved face on Countryfile for over 15 years, has had an illustrious career on British television. From his time on Blue Peter with co-star Konnie Huq to his co-hosting role on The One Show alongside Alex Jones, Matt has become a familiar figure on the small screen. After leaving the BBC in April 2020, he ventured into the world of production with his company, Big Circus Media, before returning to the limelight as the host of Channel 4’s Our Dream Farm with Matt Baker.

In the midst of his public persona, Matt’s private life remains relatively unknown. Married to his childhood sweetheart, Nicola Mooney, since 2004, the couple resides in a picturesque farmhouse in the Chiltern Hills, Hertfordshire, with their two children. Despite their enduring marriage, the pair actually met years before tying the knot at a disco show in 1997, and Matt often acknowledges Nicola’s instrumental role in his success.

Their two teenagers, Luke and Molly, lead private lives, away from the celebrity spotlight. While Matt occasionally references his family in interviews, they seldom make appearances on his social media. However, he has revealed that his children play an active role on the family farm, assisting with tasks such as sheep numbering and animal feeding.

Matt’s decision to depart The One Show in 2020 was driven by his desire to spend more time with his family, a sentiment he shared with BBC One viewers. In a candid conversation on The Mid Point with Gabby Logan podcast, Matt reflected on the changing dynamics of parenting teenagers and the newfound bond he has formed with his parents.

Despite his television commitments, Matt’s focus on family remains unwavering. Our Dream Farm with Matt Baker, an engaging series documenting the search for a tenant to manage a farm in North Wales, airs on Channel 4 every Saturday at 6pm.
