The Bees Knees Pub Welcomes New Leadership to Spark a Buzzing Revival

The Bees Knees pub in Cirencester is buzzing with fresh energy as it welcomes a dynamic new team led by Michaela McCarthy. With deep roots in the pub industry, Michaela—daughter of a former publican—is set to breathe new life into this Watermoor establishment, which was formerly home to The Cheeky Swine smokehouse.

At 42, Michaela brings a wealth of experience shaped by her upbringing in a pub-centric family and her professional background across renowned local venues such as Cotswold caterers Sam and Jak and The Five Alls in Filkins. Her vision is clear: to turn The Bees Knees into a vibrant hub for the community.

In a move to support emerging talent, Michaela has appointed 28-year-old Kira White as the pub’s new manager. Kira’s familiarity with Arkell’s Brewery pubs through her work at The Golden Cross Inn and the award-winning Swan at Swinbrook brings valuable expertise to the role.

Heading the kitchen is 29-year-old Ryan Keating, who recently returned from Devon. Ryan’s impressive culinary journey includes collaborations with Sam and Jak, The Kings Head Hotel, and The Relish Group. Ryan has crafted an exciting new menu that promises to delight patrons.

George Arkell, director of Arkell’s Brewery, expressed his excitement about the change: “It’s fantastic to have a family back at The Bees Knees. Michaela is a breath of fresh air, and we eagerly look forward to welcoming Cirencester residents to experience the pub’s exciting new chapter.”

The team has already refreshed the 19th-century venue with a fresh coat of paint and upgraded amenities. Plans are underway for significant enhancements to both the pub’s offerings and its atmosphere.

Michaela shared her aspirations for The Bees Knees: “This pub has so much potential as a community focal point. We will continue supporting local sports teams, serve great food and drinks, and host regular live music nights. We’re also exploring comedy events and other activities to make the most of the space. We encourage clubs and community members to share any ideas—they’re more than welcome to get involved.”
