Tewkesbury River Tragedy: Young Man Who Died Before Christmas Named

Tributes have poured in for Luke Haffield, a 20-year-old from Malvern, who tragically lost his life after entering the River Avon in Tewkesbury just days before Christmas. Luke was found near Mythe Road on Friday, December 19, 2025, and his body was recovered by emergency services on Saturday, December 27.

Luke’s family described him as a young man with a “beautiful soul” who touched countless lives with his kindness. “Our family is truly shocked and utterly heartbroken at the loss of our cherished son and devoted brother in such a tragic accident,” they said in a moving tribute. “He was kind, considerate, and beloved by hundreds who knew him. This shocking tragedy leaves a huge void in all our hearts.”

At the time of his passing, Luke was two years into an Engineering apprenticeship with Moog. He was also an avid sportsman, having played football, hockey, and cricket in his youth, and more recently enjoying golf, darts, and padel. “We are so proud of the young man he had become. He will always be our ‘Lukey.’ Rest in peace, our beautiful boy. You will never ever be forgotten.”
