Residents and visitors in Tewkesbury, a lively market town in Gloucestershire, should prepare for a full-day closure of the High Street on Sunday, July 19. The closure supports the popular Food and Craft Market, which has rapidly expanded over recent years and now features more than 70 stalls.
Cotswold Markets Ltd will run the event from 10am to 4pm, inviting attendees to explore an array of local foods and crafts. To accommodate the market setup and takedown, Gloucestershire County Council has authorized a High Street road closure from 5am to 8pm. The closure will stretch from the junction with Church Street (The Cross) to Quay Street, with alternative routes clearly signposted via Barton Street, Oldbury Road, and Sun Street.
While pedestrian access remains open throughout the day, drivers are advised that parking on the High Street will be prohibited and all vehicles must be removed by 5am to prevent delays. Emergency vehicles will retain access at all times, and vehicle access to the rear of Avon/Red Lane will also continue. Stagecoach buses will temporarily relocate stops to Barton Street.

Local businesses should plan ahead for the disruption, particularly regarding deliveries and waste collections, as usual parking and loading zones will be affected. Cotswold Markets Ltd encourages the community to support this event, which is expected to boost visitor numbers and contribute positively to the town’s economy.
Tewkesbury, famed for its historic Abbey, offers a vibrant calendar of cultural events all year, including theatre, live music, and medieval re-enactments. This summer’s festivities continue with Tewkesbury Live from July 24 to 26, a free music festival enlivening pubs and venues across town.
