Tewkesbury High Street Closed for Popular Summer Food and Craft Market

Tewkesbury residents and visitors are set to experience a lively summer with the closure of the High Street next Sunday, July 19, for a bustling food and craft market. Organised by Cotswold Markets Ltd, this popular event has grown significantly over recent years and now features over 70 stalls showcasing local produce and handmade crafts.

The High Street will be closed from 5am to 8pm between the junctions of Church Street (The Cross) and Quay Street to facilitate stall setup, the market operating hours from 10am to 4pm, and subsequent takedown. During this 15-hour closure, parking on the road will be banned, and all vehicles must be removed by 5am to avoid delays and fines. Emergency vehicle access will be maintained throughout.

Gloucestershire County Council has approved the road closure, with traffic diverted via Barton Street, Oldbury Road, and Sun Street, guided by clear signage. Pedestrian access will remain open, and vehicle access to the rear of Avon/Red Lane will be retained. Stagecoach buses will stop at alternative locations on Barton Street for the day.

Local businesses are advised to plan accordingly for deliveries and customer parking, potentially adjusting schedules for commercial waste collections.

The organisers encourage everyone to attend and support the market, anticipating that the event will boost visitor numbers and invigorate the town’s economy. The market is just one highlight in Tewkesbury’s busy summer calendar, which also includes theatrical performances, music gigs, and Europe’s largest medieval re-enactment festival, ongoing from July 11. The lively atmosphere continues with the Tewkesbury Live music festival taking place from July 24 to 26, featuring free performances in local pubs and venues.

Residents and visitors alike are invited to enjoy the varied events that make the town a vibrant hub throughout the summer months.
