Tents Occupied by Rough Sleepers Removed from Cheltenham Promenade

Cheltenham Borough Council has cleared tents used by rough sleepers from outside Cavendish House on Cheltenham Promenade following concerns about occupants' behaviour and the impact on the town centre.

The removal took place on Wednesday, March 4, after the council received complaints regarding the presence of pop-up tents in this prominent area. A council statement shared on social media confirmed that “swift action” was taken to relocate the tents and those staying in them.

Both the council and local police have been closely monitoring the situation to maintain peace and order in the area. While the specific destinations of the displaced rough sleepers remain undisclosed, Councillor Rowena Hay emphasized that efforts to assess their needs and offer support are ongoing.

Councillor Hay stated: “The council has acted swiftly and decisively to remove the tents and their occupants from Cavendish House. Our priority remains to ensure the town centre is a safe, welcoming, and vibrant place for residents and visitors. We will continue to take all necessary steps to uphold this.”

Earlier this week, a man was found outside Cavendish House with a suspected head injury and was hospitalized. The circumstances surrounding his injury are still unclear, and police established a cordon at the scene while conducting investigations.
