Teenager Jailed for Sexual Assault and False Imprisonment Linked to Obsession with Extreme Pornography

Samuel Rust, 23, has been sentenced to six and a half years in prison for a series of grave sexual offences committed when he was 16. Rust’s crimes, which included rape and false imprisonment, left his victim deeply traumatized.

During the trial at Gloucester Crown Court, it was revealed that Rust forced the victim naked into a cupboard against her will and subjected her to distressing abuse. Although the victim consented to being tied up on one occasion, she was confined in the cupboard without consent for approximately 15 minutes.

The court found Rust guilty of one count of anal rape, one count of oral rape, one count of sexual assault, and one count of false imprisonment related to the cupboard incident. He also pleaded guilty to possession of extreme pornographic material prior to the trial.

Investigations revealed that Rust’s devices contained about 4,500 videos depicting sadomasochistic practices and violence against women. His intense obsession with degrading and brutal pornography was described by the judge as central to his criminal behavior.

Rust’s defense argued that he was a child at the time of the offences and underestimated the volume of material found on his devices. However, Judge Ian Lawrie KC condemned Rust’s lack of genuine remorse, highlighting a manipulative letter Rust sent to his victim that failed to acknowledge the harm caused.

The victim, present in court, gave a powerful statement describing the profound and lasting impact of Rust’s actions. She spoke of ongoing fear, shame, and the struggle to find peace, expressing hope that Rust would come to recognize the gravity of his abuses.

In addition to imprisonment, Rust received an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and restraining orders protecting the victim and two other women. Gloucestershire Police and the judge emphasized the enduring risk posed by Rust’s fixation on violent pornography and his lack of contrition.

Detective Constable Annabel Brittain commended the courage of the victim and other witnesses throughout the investigation. She highlighted the importance of the lifelong prevention order in safeguarding future potential victims upon Rust’s release.

Rust’s case underscores the profound dangers of violent pornographic content influencing harmful attitudes and behaviors toward women, and the need for justice and protection for survivors.
